SUSTAINING LONG TERM COMMITMENTS

We live in a fast paced rapid fire society. Pay now, send now, overnight delivery, express, instant, prepackaged and ready for consumption. This has somehow infiltrated our expectations towards our relationships.

Seemingly a large percentage of us want happiness prepackaged to order with minimum effort from ourselves to achieve the fulfillment we so long for.

The reality of it is relationships and the ingredients they contain are not microwavable for instantaneous consumption. UPS can’t deliver that one overnight, and there is no express mode of transportation that will deliver you directly to the rewards of a sustained relationship.

You have to be committed to put in the work , investment, and time. It starts with a solid foundation of commitment cemented firmly with friendship, trust, respect, compromise, and unselfishness. It’s constructed heartbeat by heartbeat, episode by episode and not to any romance author’s blueprint.

Many of us bounce from relationship to relationship because it doesn’t come ready made. While there are individuals with extreme character flaws and discrepancies that are not conducive to a healthy relationship, and it is beneficial to one to recognize this type at an early stage, there are many more where simple difference of thought, opinion, means to and end, have been misdiagnosed as such and cast away because of mere reluctance to invest the time to understand the intentions of the being.

Love is not as ready made as we would like it to be. Think investment for sustainability. Think no deposit, no return, and you get the message in this note.

I'm a curious one that finds politics, social issues, and diverse progressive solutions interesting. I believe information and education are the most powerful weapons one can arm himself with. Those two dynamics alone open the doors to opportunities. I also subscribe to each one teach one for a better world for all.
