As a Father, I know a non-stop crying baby can be a challenge. You’re frustrated because you’re not sure why the baby is relentlessly wailing. Is it feeling bad? Is it uncomfortable? Is it hungry?
You want to fix whatever is causing it to cry.
Well, I have three solutions that worked to calm my babies’ crying and would put them to sleep (barring the possibility they weren’t sick). If they were sick I always hauled ass to their pediatrician. Now this blog post is just between ya’ll and me right? I mean ya’ll aren’t going to tell anybody about this post are you? Like my baby’s Mama?
Here are three ways that will calm down a well fed not sick baby.
Babies love car rides. They always seem to fall asleep during a car ride (at least mine did). I learned how to simulate a car ride that worked like a charm.
I strapped my baby in the car seat. Then I put an unbalanced load of clothes in the washer and let them get wet before setting the machine on the spin cycle.
I then placed and held secure the car seat strapped baby on top of the washer during the spin cycle.
The bumping and shaking of the clothes during the unbalanced spin cycle must have felt like the bumping and shaking of a car ride to my little darlings because they got quiet quick and fell asleep before the spin cycle was finished.
Now if you try this, HOLD the car seat on top of the machine. Don’t leave the baby unattended because the vibrations will cause the car seat to vibrate off the machine to the floor.
A kinder gentler version of this “rocking the baby to sleep ” technique is to hold the car seat strapped baby on top of a working dryer full of clothes. The soft bump of the tumbling clothes combined with the comforting rising “heat” calms them right down.
Or how about just not try my methods and go with “The Hold” by Dr. Robert Hamilton.
Robert Hamilton, an expert pediatrician in Santa Monica with 30 years of experiences, reveals the best way to calm down a fussy baby in seconds.
