I know y’all spend for Valentine’s Day like a newly signed pro athlete spends on jewelry and cars but I didn’t know how much until I found these figures over at The National Retail Federation.
Here’s the tally.
$1.7 billion on candy
$4.5 billion treating a date to a night out at a restaurant, tickets to a show or another experience
$4.4 billion on jewelry
$1.1 billion getting greeting cards
$2 billion for apparel
$1.9 billion for flowers
$12 billion on a gift for your significant other or spouse
$681 million on treats for a pet
Those “entrepreneurs that are selling Valentine’s Day items on parking lots, street corners, and intersection islands are on to something.
I’m of a mind to get in rose business for one day and one day only. Y’all already know what day that is.
