In every live video footage of the sitting Supreme Court Justices I have always said Clarence Thomas looked like he was in a comotose state. People would say to me “you’re being funny – stop that”. Well everytime I see the brother he’s sitting in the same spot in the same position with his hands in the same position. I’m talking about in video – not still images.

Now theres this. The Grio has reported that Clarence Thomas has not asked a question in the Supreme Court chambers in 10 years.

I’m not one to say “I told you so” but I told you the brother was comatose.

The streak is a record. No other justice in modern history has gone more than a term without asking a question during oral arguments.

From the Grio –

“It’s possible that the reason for Thomas’ silence is simply that he does not want to speak up, as he has spoken before about the fact that he is self-conscious about his Georgia accent. However, it is more likely that he is just staying quiet because he believes that he can learn more that way.”

Just what the hell does he do then?

Apparently a whole hell of a lot of writing and not much else.

Scholars say Thomas’ impact on decisions by the court comes via of his powerful written arguments which reflect his conservative beliefs and originalist interpretation of the Constitution. Scholars say Thomas’ written arguments have lasting impact on American law.

Okay there is a positive spin to this story – Thomas is a good example of what the power of the pen can acheive.

I'm a curious one that finds politics, social issues, and diverse progressive solutions interesting. I believe information and education are the most powerful weapons one can arm himself with. Those two dynamics alone open the doors to opportunities. I also subscribe to each one teach one for a better world for all.
