Dolce & Gabbana f****d up. They introduced a new shoe named the “Slave Sandal.” Yes, a”the Slave Sandal”. Yes, damned right there is a backlash and rightfully so.
The offensively named footwear came to light on their website as part of their Spring 2016 collection. The price of the shoes is just as offensive as their name. At $2,395 this fashion f***k up probably won’t wind up in a lot of closets and I would hope not on any feet.
Some retailers quickly rejected the ill-named footwear and the Milan Italy-based designers flagrant disregard for the most oppressed, abused, and used people to ever set foot on American soil.
Quickly noticed by Footwear News, the name “Slave Sandal” was changed to “Bianca
Retailers such as Saks are simply referring to the item as the pom-pom sandal. After all, that’s essentially what it is.
But here is my question to these retailers. How about just not sell the shit? Tell Dolce and Gabbana to keep these culturally and racially offensive fashion fuck ups in Italy.
This is racial strike two for D&C. Back in 2013, it sent Blackamoor earrings down the runway, prompting valid calls of racism.
So they need to be put on notice. They’re treading on thin ice. – Retailers need to let them know “Do some shit like this again and you can come get all of your shit out of all my retail space”.
Dolce & Gabbana has since renamed the shoes “decorative flat sandals” on its online store, in keeping with the less inflammatory labeling picked by third-party sites; the online luxury fashion retailer Moda Operandi listed the shoes as “pompom wraparound sandals.
SMDH @ Dolce & Gabbana. They are not the “One”.
